“Lavarsi i Denti” (Brush your Teeth)
In June 2011, David Tesini D’75, PG’77, PG’79
Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatric
Dentistry presented “Lavarsi i Denti” (Brush
your Teeth) to Asilo San Pio XI in Vittorio
Veneto, Italia. About 50 children aged 4-5
had fun with Dr Tesini’s
Italian version of the presentation he and Dr James “Jess” Kane
D’74, PG 77 (etc) have given in the
Natick nursery schools for the past 34 years.
With the help of family and friends in Vittorio
Veneto, a colorful
designo of a child’s
mouth was made and Sisters Margarita, Etc did an job keeping the
kids in line, just in case Dr Tesini (as he often did )
mispronounced an italian word here or there. The children learned
about bacteria, plaque, and
piccolo pizzetti di cibo that must be brushed or rinsed from
their teeth almeno due volte
per giorno. The most animated part of the presentation is when
selected voluntario get
to dress up as the dentista,
assestente e secretario.
Dr. Tesini’s mother’s family was from Vittorio
Veneto (30 minutes north of
Venice), so it was also a good time for him
to catch up with family and friends in
citta vecchia. In 2002,
Dr Tesini did a six month teaching sabbatical at the Universita
Degli Pavia (just south of
Milan) in the orthodontic department with
Professor Guiseppe Sfrondrini. He lectured on Facial and TMJ Growth
and Development and the Effects of Oral Habits on the developing
dentition.
In 1988, Drs. Kane and Tesini co-founded
Project Stretch,
a nonprofit organization which provides free dental care to needy
children throughout the world. Currently, Drs. Kane, Tesini and
Soporowski serve on its Board of Directors.
